Indoor Cycling Classes

Nor Door Cycle Studio

Nor Door Cycle Studio (NDCS) is part of Nor Door Sport and Cyclery in Fish Creek, Wisconsin.  Our main focus is providing you the area’s ultimate indoor cycling choices and experience by offering a variety of cycling classes that are tailored to both audience and fitness goals.

Cycling classes are great workouts that test your endurance, cardiovascular system and strength. Through a series of aerobic and anaerobic drills, these classes work the heart and lungs and strengthen the lower body as well as abdominal muscles.  Unlike most traditional aerobics classes in which participants need to be at comparable fitness levels, indoor cycling classes allow someone in great shape to ride next to someone who is just starting an exercise program. Each individual is responsible for the intensity of his or her own workout. Bikers can modify their cycling resistance and pace according to their fitness levels.  There are no fancy steps to learn and, even if you don't know how to ride a bicycle, you can enjoy the class because there is no balancing involved. As long as you keep pedaling you will maintain the aerobic benefits. If you are looking for a good way to burn fat and calories, but are tired of traditional aerobics, stair machines and treadmills, a cycling class might put a new spin on things.

Our instructors are qualified and continuously certified professionals to ensure that you get the workout you need and want in addition to a strong focus on comfort and safety and individual results. We are dedicated to making NDCS the best indoor cycling facility and experience in Door County, Wisconsin in a unique, comfortable, non-intimidating and fun environment.

Current Instructors

Fredrik Bexell

Freddie Bexell has been riding a bike since he learned to walk in Osterbymo, Sweden. At an early age, the necessity to get around grew into a love of the sport of cycling. From the accomplishment of powering up hills and the adrenaline of cruising down dirt tracks to finding a perfect cadence and experiencing the solitude of the open road, Freddie thrives on the mental and physical rewards of cycling.

His on-the-go lifestyle translated directly into riding the back roads and trails of Door County when he moved here in 2000. Still an avid road and mountain bike rider, Freddie’s love of the sport has been an element that has helped him get involved in the Door community. On the Board of Directors of the Door County Silent Sports Alliance, as well as on the non-profit organization’s Biking Committee, Freddie is dedicated to preserving and promoting an active, outdoor, sustainable lifestyle.

In addition to supporting a healthy way of life, Freddie continues to challenge himself via the sport and its competitive outlets. A participant in numerous WORS Series mountain bike races, as well as a two-time finisher of the monstrous Ore to Shore 48-mile Hardrock Mountain Bike Race, Freddie knows what it takes to not only train for endurance pursuits, but what it takes to excel in these avenues.

Within the last two years, Freddie has acted upon the desire to turn his personal passion for cycling into a profession. His Spinning Certification and CycleOps Power training with Angie Sturtevant (CycleOps Power Program Originator and Fitness Education Director) has provided him with the tools to translate workouts into comprehensive training programs for cycling enthusiasts. Freddie is a firm believer that training with power, no matter one’s ability or experience on a bike, is the most effective strategy to meeting fitness goals – whether based around weight loss, endurance, strength, or overall performance. He finds joy in helping others obtain objective results, perpetuating their own personal biking pursuits.

As a new homeowner, much of his time not spent in the saddle is allocated to home renovation projects or at his “day-job” as the kitchen manager at Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant. In the little free-time he has left, Freddie enjoys cross country skiing, playing the drums, and travelling.

APPROACH
Freddie’s specialty is CycleOpsPower® training bringing a new level of indoor cycle training to the area. He is a firm believer that in order to live a healthy and happy lifestyle, taking care of his body in various ways through nutrition and exercise is paramount as well as measuring the success of your efforts. Freddie hopes to inspire others willing to change, improve or continue their physical and mental health with his story of dedication and motivation.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Im new to indoor cycling. Do I have to be in great shape or be an experienced rider?

No. Indoor cycling can be adapted to any fitness level. Each rider controls the resistance on their bike and the speed of their own pedals. You choose how hard you want to work on any given ride. We provide a variety of classes for a variety of fitness levels and individual goals. Our easy-to-use bikes provide you with all the feedback you need to ensure an optimal workout. Each class is filled with riders of all levels There are no limits or prerequisites. The only question is how hard you want to work on any given day. Let our experienced teachers set you up properly and guide you through your journey.

2. Do you provide water at the studio?

Yes, but we suggest you bring at least one bottle of water. We have a water cooler to fill your water bottles and we sell bottled water if necessary.

3. Do you provide towels?

Bring a towel. We don’t have a towel service. But if you forget your own, we do have towels available.

4. How many calories will I burn in class and how many miles will I travel?

Depending on the class and the rider, the average indoor cyclist burns between 600-900 calories in just 60 minutes. In that same period of time, you’re likely to ride 15-20 miles. With a heart rate monitor and in some of our more advanced and technical classes you can see exactly how many calories you’re burning and much energy you’re using in class.

5. Will these classes bulk up my thighs?

Indoor cycling offers a journey that can tone and sculpt the legs. We simply don’t use enough resistance for a long enough period of time to bulk up the thigh muscles.

6. Will indoor cycling improve my running?

We hear time and time again from our avid runners how happy they are that they’ve added indoor cycling to their cross-training routine. Most runners report that indoor cycling balances out their leg muscles, putting emphasis on muscle groups not normally used during running. In general, indoor cycling improves everything.

7. I have bad knees and back problems, is indoor cycling safe for me?

Of course you should always consult your physician before beginning a new exercise program, but with proper setup you should be just fine. In fact many physical therapists recommend cycling for both knee and back injury recovery.

8. Is the seat comfortable?

Some beginners find that the seat, and bike in general, require a little getting used to. Padded bike shorts or a cushioned gel seat can definitely soothe your own seat. In no time at all you may find that you won’t necessarily need either one.

9. Do I need special shoes to ride?

No, but flat-soled shoes work best. After you’ve fallen in love with indoor cycling you’ll want to take it to the next level and purchase cycling shoes with SPD clips for the most efficient ride.

10. What do I wear?

You should wear close fitting bottoms like bike shorts, running shorts, yoga pants or a leotard. A t-shirt is great or a work-out top is also fine. Bring a spare top since you just might work up a sweat.

11. Do you have showers?

We have dedicated nearly every inch of our studio space to your ride. For that reason, we do not have a full-service locker facility like you’d find at a gym.  We’ve found that most of our clients prefer to shower at home but we do have a changing room and restroom.
